  • This 60-ton, three-truck Shay kit is based on the West Side Lumber Company #12. The multi-media kit is composed of pewter, resin, and 3d printed parts. Two extensive photo-etched frets allow you to create a highly detailed operating N-scale standard gauge locomotive. To add ballast, some of the parts are cold-cast with brass-filled resin. The completed kit can be operated with one or two 9 mm power trucks (available separately on our website). Detailed instructions make building the kit as easy as possible. Click on the instructions tab to view the instructions. Click on one of the videos on the video tab to see a very excellent and helpful step-by-step build that was so kindly contributed by Bill Hodgdon. Click on another of the videos to see the Nn3 version of this Shay in operation. Many thanks to Tom Knapp for this video.
    • Excellent model
There is nice detail in the model, it is well made, and has good instructions. Thinner plastic printed parts should be handled with care since it doesn't take much force for them to break. Tap screw holes, as forcing a screw can break the parts from the force. Adding lights will take considerable kit bashing, so I don't recommend it for a novice. I ended up using 2 motors as the wheels tended to slip with just one.
